10 year anniversary

10 year anniversary

Way back in 2014 a brave group of runners gathered for the very 1st Blood Run.

Back then we only had two times: 12 & 6 hours, because who would want to run a 1.5ish mile loop longer than that?

It was an impressive field. In the last 9 years, 3 of these runners have been here every year but one.

For the 10th running of The Blood Run at The Good Earth Farm we will be pulling out all of the stops. It’s going to be a weekend of running, laughing, probably some crying, heroic efforts, and dashed dreams.

We are upping our SWAG game.

We are adding a relay.

It’s going to be the most fun you have at a race all season.

What you can expect

The Setting

The farm is located 4 miles south of Lennox, SD, which is about 20 minutes from Sioux Falls, SD. The farmers, Jeff and Nancy, have lived here since 2011. Both are recovering ultra runners from the time before online registrations, lotteries, and people referring to food as nutrition. The nearest hotel is in Tea, SD. There is also camping at the farm.

The Course

The farm sits on about 30 acers with a little creek running through it. If the bridge doesn’t get washed out you will be able to run over that creek and not through it. The 1.5 mile course is a little gravel, a lot of grass (mowed path) and some dirt. You will run around the vegetable fields, across the pasture, onto a gravel road, and then back to the perimeter of the fields until you start it all over again!

The Weekend

The 36 hour race starts at Midnight on August 31st/Friday night.

The 24 hour Individual & Relay starts at Noon/12PM on Saturday.

The 12 hour starts at Midnight on Saturday.

The 6 hour starts at 6AM on Sunday.

The 3 hours starts at 9AM on Sunday.

All races end at 12/Noon on Sunday, Sept 1st.

There will be a pre-race briefing/packet pick-up on Friday at the farm at 6PM. This will also coincide with the woodfired pizza night. There will be a discount for pizzas in your race packet.

  • Nope. That’s the beauty of a timed event like this. You can walk, take a nap—just let us know if you are going to take a break so we know that you haven’t been taken prisoner by Princess Buttercup.

  • Yes.

We don’t like to make rules about stuff like this—so someone can run/walk with you for a while. Just be mindful of other people on the course.

  • You can—here are a few things to keep in mind. If it’s hot (which it almost always is) there is very little shade at the farm. Your dog probably doesn’t want to run 36 or even 3 hours with you—so you will need to have a handler for it. Your dog must be on a leash at all times. We are an animal sanctuary where cats, chickens, geese, and the occasional deer run around freely. We also have two donkeys who’s purpose is to keep predators (like coyotes) at bay.

  • We keep track of your laps by putting a marble in a jar for each lap you complete. Once you finish your race, your jar of marbles are yours!

36 & 24 Hour individual runners can earn a Belt Buckle for completing 100 miles in the designated time.

Each runner will also receive a race t-shirt.

We don’t do age group or overall winner awards.
